After 3-ish years of commuting, forgetting I left the lights on, sitting and listening to the radio, putting the top up/down without the car running this old ETX14 is getting a little tired. I needed a jump start at the last autox, and it sounded "weak" when starting the car at TimeAttack (as ultimatt can attest to).

Well, I noticed NAPA has their powersports batteries on sale this month, and there was a familiar looking grey/black/lead-posts DEKA right in the flyer.

One trip to NAPA later and it's pretty obvious the NAPA powersports batteries are just the Deka with a NAPA sticker on top... same box no less:

New ETX12:

Not much difference in size/weight from the ETX14:

The new battery turns the car over nice & "crisply".

Also, my brake pedal is feeling a little softer than I'd like, so it's time for the yearly bleed/flush with the "good stuff" (yes, I went extra baller, because I only have to do it yearly as opposed to after every TimeAttack)

Most every motorcycle shop will carry RBF600 and RBF660 for the sportbike/trackday guys.

Another evening of TimeAttack in the bag

I might have not managed to cord these... but they're definitely getting/wearing slower now.

Also here's a pic of some 9/32" (new) vs. <1/32" (bald) tires. The new ones are the same size of Hankook v12's that I use as commuting tires. I'm surprised how much different the tread looks

Time to get a ton of tires mounted!

New starspecs mounted up, ready for AutoX _next_ weekend.

Final Tire usage tracking for the previous Starspecs:
  • 9 TimeAttacks
  • 139 autox runs
  • 2352km of driving

That's w/o daily driving them. Just for those wondering just how long do those Extreme Performance Summer tires last...

Compared to my old RE-01r on my WRX which I did daily drive (and autox) which lasted:

Indeed, but I have no idea how to interpret it...

Is it, "Bridgestone RE-01r last 2x as long as Dunlop Direzza Z1 Starspecs"? (nope)

I, personally, would take away the message: "Highway miles (with a decent alignment) are practically free when it comes to tire wear".

Alternatively it could be: "Just doing autox (on appropriate tires) won't overly reduce the # of km you can get from a set of tires." (Those RE-01r numbers were _two_ summers)

Or, my least favourite: "TimeAttack really _does_ wear your tires."

(Thanks Candy for the pic from the Drivers Meeting)

Good day of autox!

And the new Starspecs are _much_ gripper than the old set had gotten!

The mileage has rolled From:

To:

88,888, so that means I've covered 33,333km of Autox/TimeAttack and top down commuting!

Also, I noticed this while swapping brakes for the TimeAttack tomorrow.

Fluid filled diff mounts... I'm sure some engineer was sold on the idea. FFS.
