Default Straightpipe's future

The board is slowly dying due to lack of activity. There are give or track 25 to 50 active folks depending on the season. We're in need of a software update that is in the order of $399 USD to support new versions of PHP, stop requiring me to do exploit fixes on a monthly basis, and prevent further Romanian goat porn spam.

Hosting is cheap, $10 USD / month, and that's not a problem.

If we look at alternative board software it could allow for a format / content style change but not sure that there is much jam left in the ole girl.

Your feedback is appreciated.

Strato closing and Facebook groups picking up was a double whammy for pulling activity off the board. I'd hate to see it go, but you have to wonder if it's like owning a restauraunt where you only cook food for yourself.

I have no idea why I neglected to create an FB group. Should probably do that.

Please, don't just move to FB. I know I'm in the minority but there are people who have chosen not to participate in facebook. Not because we're technophobes, but rather because we do understand the tech and have opted out of their business model.

Adding to Jim's comment; FB is really only useful for items to temporary value. If it's not new, it's gone. This longer term knowledge is a niche for the forums.

That said; perhaps pooling some resources in the region? A unified web presence was one mandate of the WCMA's Go Racing transformation. I believe there is some budget available for website and forum work (needed!) if we've got some enthusiastic and capable folks to do it.

Admittedly I forgot to keep coming here for the past 5 months.. but now that i've remembered it exists I would miss it this season lol.

If ~25 of us regulars want to keep it going, $10-15 each, etransferred would help, yes?

Thanks for the offer.

We've got to do something about keeping this place going from a software side before the spam / security holes kill it outright.

I'll put some time in over the next couple of weeks and see what can be done.
