Default Spec Miata Road Racing

(Repost from the "Straightpipe Forum" for NASCC members benefit - the NASCC website links directly to this section - so as not to miss out on seeing the notice/posting)

As of the 2012 WCMA AGM held in Winnipeg on October 20, 2012, adding Spec Miata as a race class was discussed and unanimously supported by the WCMA executive! : "Spec class racing - there was a unanimous support for the push for the creation of a Mazda Miata /Mx5 Spec class." http://www.wcma.ca/forum/index.php?P...icseen#msg1690

Assuming there will be road races booked at Castrol for the 2013 season, and there are half a dozen participants, the Spec Miata class should have its inaugural road racing event in Western Canada starting next summer. If you plan on participating in the new Spec Class, please feel free to let the WCMA executive know of your intentions on the WCMA forum: http://www.wcma.ca/forum/index.php?P...icseen#msg1689

Additional information on how to get involved, questions/concerns or for any general help can be found at www.miatavsmiata.ca or by contacting miatavsmiata(AT)gmail.com in addition to the forums.

From WCMA's VP: "There is a huge supply of these cars scattered around the States that are well priced. You can buy a race prepared car for the price of a major tune up on a Ferrari or Lambo. Tires and parts are far less expensive than an exotic car and you will have a lot more fun on the race track. The highlight of a spec series is that new competitors have an instant yard stick to measure their skill level and to drastically improve their driving skills competing against drivers in like model cars. It does not get any better than this. It's very, very cool and personally rewarding to be the Champion in a class of 20 cars than being the champion in a class of one car."

Default Head Count: Spec Miata

Will you be joining Spec Miata for the 2014 race season?

We are already planning for next season. We have 13 Spec Miata race cars confirmed in the region as of the end of the 2013 season and we had as many as 9 cars show up to a single road race event at Castrol Raceway. Several of the cars also participated at various autocross events in the province. As of this moment, we have an additional 9 racers who have indicated they are definitely building a car or buying a car (from the U.S.) for the 2014 season. Our current total is therefore 22 potential cars on grid (like the image above) in 2014. That's a lot of cars and should make for some exciting equally matched racing! Our racers are as follows:

Have SM or Raced SM in 2013:
Gerard T, Chris S, Doug C, Bob V, Greg C, Greg M, Ken M, Mikel B, Robin S, Dan S, Dean C, Mark B, John L, Doug M

Confirmed buying or building SM to race in 2014:
Chris S, Dana K, David G, Edouard K, James F, Kent S, Scott S, Sean F, Terry B

Possible for 2014:
Clint M, David W, Gord C, Harvey L, Jim D, Kris K, Neal H, Ryan C, Roy W, Vitor P

bringing the grand total to a possible 32 Spec Miatas!!

The question is, are you in? If your name isn't already listed above and you either:
A) Already have a Spec Miata and plan to race it next year or
B) Are definitely going to buy or build one to race for the 2014 season or
C) I've thought seriously about doing it and will do it in 2014 if a few things work out ok (such as budget, time, tow vehicle, etc etc).
D) Would love to but I spend all of my money on beer.

Reply here or pm me or send an email to miatavsmiata@gmail.com For more general info also visit http://miatavsmiata.ca/

I will soon be posting some helpful hints on importing for those shopping for a U.S. car.

Thanks for your interest and support!

Could check with Edouard Kassiannoff at Lithium Autosport or with Doug Moyer, both in Calgary. I think a rental Spec Miata will be in very very high demand if there is someone willing to provide it. I've spoken with a number of guys interested in doing that.
