Default Spec Miata Circle Track Exhibition Race 2014

What: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jTZ4ddbDBu4 (I count 14 cars in the video, we should be over 20 Spec Miatas next season)
and another video: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lJr8HVsodZA

Where: http://www.edmontonraceway.com/index...1000#&panel1-1

Purpose: Spec Miatas to demonstrate the class & get some more exposure. For fun. To involve more of our club members and to give the spectators a little something extra to watch, we could do a 1/2 way point 4 tire change (left to right side to even out the wear) using full pit crew. Its probably also a good opportunity to put together a decent High Definition multi-camera video.

When: Likely later in the season and in conjunction with a well attended typical circle track event.

Who: As many SMs as we can get to come out. Let me know if its something you'd like to participate in (or not). I've asked one of our people with circle track experience to start looking into what is required etc.

If successful and a good time, it might be an idea to fit in one oval event per season. (Probably just for cash prizes, not points).

Looks like about the same lap times as the big V8 late model cars ~14 seconds. GO Miata!

At Edmonton raceway , in late 90's early 2000 we ran a mini stock class. Too notch cars were equivalent to a decently preped stu/spec Miata. The slowest late models were running similar times to us. The fastest ones lapped us every 6-8laps. I would assume same with today's cars. The miatas will be as fast as the botom 15% of late models, and nowhere near the top runners. I ran that track with 73 rx3 and a couple different 81-85 rx7's. it is fun. Doing four turns and two straights every 14-15 seconds keeps you busy for sure.

In the Lanier Speedway vid they put up a "78mph average" title at the beginning. Who knows if that's accurate. Then, I looked at the lap times on Wikipedia for that track and it shows some old NASCAR Busch Grand National Series and times by guys like Bobby Labonte in a 1992 Chevy. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Lanier_National_Speedway Will be interesting and fun to see how us rookie circle track guys will do. Of course, Greg Moir will likely beat the pants off of us. http://miatavsmiata.ca/blog/2013/5/2...ta-racing.html

Hey Greg ... are you thinking about adding another race to the PPC Straightpipe series?

This would be very interesting to try in the sim. I can add it as an exhibition race with no points!
