That's a good idea brock, I'm going to do that.

Worked on the fuel return line tonight. First shot is under the rear hatch carpet, top of the fuel level sending unit where the return line goes in and the tank vent line comes out.

Attached a string to the old return hose before I pulled it out.

Made the new hose.

Attached the string to the new hose and pulled it through.

Attached to the top of the fuel tank.

Shot under the car by the tank. The Corvette filter/regulator is being held by the original stock fuel filter bracket. I've got the delivery line to engine bay and the return line to the tank connected. Just need to do the line from the pump to the filter/regulator.

Finished up the hydroboost lines. I also drilled the manual headlight bracket on the driver side to give a lazy eye setting to get some air to the area where the air intake and hydroboost cooler sit.

Finished up the wiring. That's it for the install on the top side, except for installing the strut bar, hood and header panel obviously.

Next up is exhaust. Nothing too elegant planned there, I've got a Y pipe in hand and I'm waiting on a few other pieces to make the connection from the headers to the existing Lindsey Racing 3 inch single system. This will be the "get it running" setup, it only has a Pypes M-80 muffler which doesn't muffle much. It was fine on the stock turbo engine since the turbo did much of the muffling.

Pretty much Matt, got the fluids sitting in the garage to fill with, and Brock helped me out with some welding on the Y pipe, I just need to sort a flex pipe and have him weld some connectors on that and I'll install the full exhaust and try to start it. My guess is the starting won't go smoothly, so there will still be troubleshooting to do.

Well, the good news. Got it up and running, no warning lights on dash, coolant and oil pressure guage work, revs read double so the MEFI computer must output a V8 signal unlike a stock LS PCM which outputs a 4 cylinder signal so I'll need a conversion box to correct that.

Now the bad news. There was a strange tapping noise and low cold start oil pressure and unresponsive oil guage with revs which turned out to be the worst case scenario. The oil has enough metal sparkles in it to build another engine!

I gambled on a used engine and lost. That's life. Not sure I'll bother cracking open this engine, may just hunt for a fresh built long block, I'd like something around the 350hp mark so I can abuse it on track without having to worry too much about the transmission. Another aluminum 5.3 or possibly 5.7 long block. At this point at least its a more simple engine swap, everything around it is ready to go, wiring, fuel, cooling, accessories etc.

Well, seems like congrats and condolences are both in order. Good on ya for getting it started, sorry about your bad luck. Do you think the engine was bad from the get-go or that the damage occurred after your startup?

It was making the odd tapping noise on very first startup, so I'm thinking it was bad from the get go. I'm working on pulling it right now, pretty close to figuring out a path forward, but haven't quite connected all the dots yet.
